The two main excursions from Lidköping are close and easy to combine.
Läckö Castle is 25 km north on Kållandsö island, reachable by road in under 30 minutes. The white Baroque palace on Lake Vänern is one of the most striking buildings in Sweden — see the Läckö Castle page for what to expect. In summer, the castle stages outdoor opera productions that are worth planning a trip around.
Kinnekulle plateau is about 20 km east, best explored by bicycle. The circular route around the massif links several small villages and passes through meadows, beech forest, and past the Husaby church — see the Kinnekulle page. The spring wildflower season in May is the highlight.
Both destinations require a car or bicycle — public transport connections are limited. A car allows you to do both in the same day without difficulty.
