Rörstrand Museum

The Rörstrand Museum occupies part of the old factory complex near the town centre and traces three centuries of Swedish ceramic design, from 18th-century faience through the Art Nouveau period to the clean Scandinavian modernism that made brands like Swedish Grace internationally recognised. The collection is larger and more interesting than you might expect for a provincial factory museum.

Alongside the museum is a factory outlet shop where seconds and older stock are sold at reduced prices — a practical draw for anyone who appreciates Swedish tableware. The Mon Amie and Swedish Grace patterns in particular have cult followings among collectors. The museum and shop are within easy walking distance of the main square, and together they make a worthwhile hour or two in town.

A story
Rörstrand was founded in Stockholm in 1726, making it Sweden's oldest porcelain manufacturer and the second oldest in Europe after Meissen. The factory moved to Lidköping in 1926, and the town's identity has been shaped by the industry ever since — generations of local families worked the kilns and painting rooms.
