Brunnsvik Folk High School

Historic adult education college, cradle of the Swedish labour movement

Brunnsvik is one of Sweden's most famous folkhögskolor — folk high schools — founded in 1906 on the shore of Lake Väsman. From the start it was closely tied to the trade union and labour movement, and over the twentieth century an extraordinary number of Swedish socialist politicians, writers and journalists passed through its doors.

The campus, a cluster of timber buildings overlooking the lake, is still an active college today. Visitors can wander the grounds; the small museum on the site documents the school's first century, the rise of working-class adult education, and the cultural energy that radiated out from this otherwise unlikely spot.
