Ludvika

Southern Dalarna industrial town in Bergslagen, surrounded by forests, lakes, and mining history.

Ludvika is an industrial town in southern Dalarna, in the heart of Bergslagen — the central Swedish mining district that drove Swedish industry for several centuries. The town is surrounded by forests and lakes, and the area still has wolves and bears, though you are unlikely to see either.

The nearby Brunnsvik Folk High School has a notable history as a centre for the Swedish labour movement. The town itself has a small but well-kept open-air museum and mining museum that documents the Bergslagen iron industry. For visitors, the main appeal is the surrounding countryside: good walking, cycling, swimming in Lake Väsman, and fishing in the quiet Bergslagen landscape.

Things to Do

Ludvika is a small industrial town, and its sights reflect that — the mining museum at the edge of town, the lakes that ring it, and the Brunnsvik folk school nearby. It is best treated as a base for exploring the Bergslagen mining landscape rather than as a destination in itself.
