A car gives you the most flexibility but is not essential. Bicycles can be hired in Simrishamn, Ystad, and Kivik; the roads are flat, the distances are manageable, and a number of marked cycle routes connect the coast and the inland villages. Sykkelleden Skåneleden is the long-distance route through the area.
Buses run between the main towns (Skånetrafiken) but services to smaller villages are limited, particularly outside summer. A timetable check is essential if you are relying on public transport. The train line ends at Simrishamn — anywhere further north along the coast (Kivik, Stenshuvud) is best reached by car or bike.
