House of Knights

Ornate 17th-century assembly hall for Swedish nobility

Address Riddarhustorget 10, Gamla Stan

The Riddarhuset (House of Knights) is one of the finest examples of Dutch Baroque architecture in northern Europe, built between 1641 and 1674 on the northern edge of Gamla Stan. It served as the meeting place for the Swedish nobility and still belongs to the knightly orders today. The main hall upstairs is lined with over 2,300 coats of arms representing every ennobled Swedish family. The exterior, with its copper roof and classical facade facing Riddarhustorget square, is equally striking. You can visit the interior on guided tours; check opening times as they vary by season.
