Gustav Adolfs torg

This formal square sits at a crossroads of Stockholm's civic life, flanked by the Royal Swedish Opera on one side and the old Ministry of Foreign Affairs building on another. At its centre stands an equestrian statue of King Gustav II Adolf, the warrior-king who made Sweden a European power in the seventeenth century. The square has been a public gathering point for centuries and still hosts occasional markets and events. It is also a practical landmark — from here you can walk to the parliament building on Helgeandsholmen, cross to Gamla Stan, or head up toward the commercial district along Kungsgatan. A good spot to get your bearings.
