Norr Mälarstrand

Tree-lined lakeside promenade along Kungsholmen's southern shore

Norr Mälarstrand is the waterside promenade that runs the length of Kungsholmen's southern shore, from below the City Hall west towards Rålambshovsparken. It is one of the most pleasant walks in central Stockholm: willow trees lean over the water, small jetties and houseboats line the quay, and there are benches and a couple of seasonal cafés along the way, with Riddarfjärden and the rooftops of Södermalm across the water.

It takes maybe half an hour end to end at an easy pace, and pairs naturally with a visit to the City Hall at the eastern end or the park at the western one. Locals run, cycle, and walk dogs here at all hours; at sunset it is quietly one of the best free things to do in the city.
