Stockholm Public Library is one of architect Gunnar Asplund's great works, completed in 1928 and still used as an ordinary city library. The famous central rotunda is lined with three levels of bookshelves, turning a practical reading room into one of Stockholm's most memorable interiors.
It is worth a deliberate detour if you care about architecture, design, or quiet civic spaces. Step inside for the cylindrical main hall, then continue north along Sveavägen or back toward central Norrmalm.
