Sveg's most famous attraction is a 13-metre wooden bear weighing 80 tonnes, standing at the intersection of Vallarvägen and Ljusnegatan a short walk from the railway station. The bear was built between 2003 and 2005 from locally sourced timber and has become the unlikely symbol of a town determined to attract visitors to this remote corner of Jämtland county.
The sculpture is a genuine curiosity — outsized, technically accomplished, and slightly absurd in its ambition. It is described as the world's largest wooden bear, and while such records are difficult to verify, nothing in Sweden challenges the claim. Atlas Obscura lists it as a highlight of the region.
The bear is free to see and accessible at any hour. The walk from the railway station takes about five minutes.
