Bönhamn

A preserved fishing harbour on a sheltered inlet, Bönhamn is a cluster of red and ochre wooden boathouses (sjöbodar) clinging to a steep ravine that drops into the Bothnian Sea. A small fleet of working boats still fishes from here for herring and salmon, and the smokehouse on the quay sells freshly smoked fish in season.

The harbour is also the jumping-off point for the boat to Högbonden island. The Fjällbo Café on the quay serves what many locals reckon is the best salmon soup on the coast.
