Silverpilen

In a small outdoor art park near the village, a complete unit of the legendary Stockholm metro train known as Silverpilen sits incongruously in the woods. The bare aluminium-bodied train, retired from service in 1996, was the basis of one of Sweden's most enduring urban legends — that on certain nights an empty silver train would appear on Stockholm's metro and take its passengers somewhere very dark indeed.

The installation, run by the artist Mikael Genberg, is open to walk through whenever the gate is open. It is free, photogenic in a melancholic way, and unexpected.

A story
Silverpilen, the 'Silver Arrow,' was one of the bare-metal C5 trains that ran on the Stockholm metro from 1965 to 1996. A persistent urban legend held that a ghost train of unmarked silver coaches ran on dark midnight lines through the system, picking up unwary passengers who were never seen again. The real Silverpilen now rests in a rural Swedish forest, which is somehow even stranger.
