Getting There

Umeå Airport (UME) is 4 km south of the city centre, with regular flights to Stockholm Arlanda on SAS and Norwegian. The flight takes about 90 minutes, and flying is the most practical option for most visitors — Umeå is 600 km north of Stockholm by road.

By train, the journey from Stockholm takes around 7–8 hours on the Botniabanan coastal route. The train runs along the Gulf of Bothnia coast and passes through Sundsvall and Härnösand, with good sea views on the final section. Night trains also operate, allowing you to arrive in the morning.

By ferry, there is a regular service across the Gulf of Bothnia to Vaasa in Finland, operated by RG Line. The crossing takes about 4 hours. This is a pleasant option if you are combining Sweden and Finland on a longer trip — the ferry runs year-round and is comfortable.

Driving from Stockholm takes 7–8 hours on the E4 motorway along the coast.
