Umeå City Church

Umeå City Church (Umeå stadskyrka) sits between Vänortsparken and the north bank of the Ume River, a red-brick structure built after the 1888 fire that destroyed most of the old town. The church replaced an earlier wooden building lost in the blaze and was completed in 1894 in a Gothic Revival style unusual for the pragmatic rebuilding that followed the fire.

The interior is calm and well-proportioned, with stained glass windows that provide most of the visual interest. The churchyard is a quiet spot in summer, shaded by mature trees, and the riverside location makes it a natural waypoint on a walk along the Ume. Services are held regularly and visitors are welcome outside service times.
