Store Mosse National Park

Southern Sweden's largest bog landscape, crossed by boardwalks, bird towers, and quiet forest trails.

Store Mosse National Park is the big outdoor reason to use Värnamo as a base. It protects a broad bog and lake landscape with raised peat, pine islands, birdlife, and long wooden boardwalks that let you cross wet ground without chewing up the place.

Start at the Naturum visitor centre, then choose a loop that fits the weather and your shoes. The best walks feel wonderfully empty: low sky, tawny grass, black water, and the sound of birds carrying over the marsh.

A story
Store Mosse feels northern, but it is only a short drive from the E4. The bog is a leftover of a much wetter post-glacial landscape, and its open peatlands give southern Sweden a Lapland-like mood without the long journey north.
