Getting There

Andermatt is unusually well served by rail for an alpine village. The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) connects Andermatt to Göschenen (where you change to the main SBB line for Zürich and Lucerne) and to Sedrun, Disentis, and ultimately Chur to the east. The Glacier Express passes through on its run between Zermatt and St. Moritz. The journey from Zürich takes about 1.5 hours via Göschenen.

By car, Andermatt is reached via the A2 motorway from Göschenen (4km), or over the Gotthard, Furka, or Oberalp passes when they are open. In winter the Gotthard road tunnel provides year-round road access. The Furka Pass (including the famous Furka-Basistunnel rail tunnel) operates the Glacier Express car-carrying service in winter — you can load your car onto a flatcar and pass through the mountain.
