Imperial China Mongolian Barbecue is a Bern institution above the Restaurant Gfeller on Bärenplatz. The format is self-serve: choose raw meats (beef, chicken, pork, lamb, fish, shrimp), vegetables, and sauces from a buffet, and watch the cook grill it on a large circular griddle. The price covers the buffet run, rice, and sauces; drinks are extra. It is good value by Bern standards and popular with families and groups.
The entrance is up one flight of stairs inside the Gfeller doorway, farthest left when facing the restaurant. The room is light and well-decorated with terracotta warrior replicas at the entrance. Hours are daily 11am–2:30pm and 5pm–11:30pm. The location on Bärenplatz puts you in the thick of the Old Town, a short walk from the Bundeshaus and the arcades.
