Kornhauskeller

Address Kornhausplatz 18, 3011 Bern

The Kornhauskeller is a restaurant in the vaulted cellar of a baroque granary built in 1718, one of the most dramatically set dining rooms in Switzerland. The main hall has a soaring painted vault with arched alcoves, and the space feels like eating inside a very grand church — which, in terms of architecture, it approximates. The menu runs to Mediterranean-influenced dishes, grilled meats, and Swiss classics.

Prices are in the upper-middle range for Bern. The Kornhauskeller is less about the food than the room, but the kitchen is reliable. Booking is advisable at weekends. The Kindlifresserbrunnen — the notorious Child Eater Fountain — stands just outside on Kornhausplatz.
