Biel/Bienne can be visited at any time of year. Summer (June to September) is the best season for the lake: boat services to St. Peter's Island run on full schedule, the vineyards along the northern shore are in leaf, and lakeside swimming is possible at several points. The Taubenloch Gorge walk is pleasant in all but the coldest months; spring is particularly good when the river is full. The Jura plateau above the funiculars is accessible year-round, though snow can close the higher trails in winter. December brings a modest Christmas market to the old town. The Omega Museum is open year-round with no seasonal variation.
