Getting There

By train: The Rhaetian Railway serves the Engadine from Chur via the Albula line. Chur is on the main Swiss rail network and reachable from Zurich in about 75 minutes. From Chur to St. Moritz takes about two hours on the Glacier Express or regular RhB trains. Direct trains from Zurich to St. Moritz run in summer and at peak winter periods.

By car: From Zurich, take the A3 to Chur and then the N3/A13 toward the San Bernardino Pass, turning off for Tiefencastel and the Julier Pass (open year-round). The Julier approach (about 2.5 hours from Zurich) is the most reliable winter route. The Maloja approach from Milan via Como takes about 3.5 hours.

By air: Samedan Airport serves private jets and some charter flights. Commercial access is via Zurich (2.5 hours by road or train), Milan Bergamo, or Innsbruck for the Lower Engadine.

Within the valley: The RhB train runs the length of the Upper Engadine with frequent stops. Buses connect to villages off the rail line. A car gives significantly more flexibility for exploring passes and side valleys.
