Belmont Castle

Ruined medieval castle in the forest above Flims, with views over the valley

Belmont Castle is a ruined medieval tower on the forested hillside above Flims, about an hour's walk from the village. The walls have crumbled to varying heights but the setting is excellent — the castle occupies a spur overlooking the Rhine valley and Flims below. The walk up through the forest is quiet and pleasant.

The castle was built in the 13th century as a fortified residence for the local lords of Belmont. It was abandoned in the 15th century and left to decay. Not a major sight, but a good destination for a forest walk with a purpose, and largely unvisited.
