Flims is a beautifully located village in the Canton of Graubünden, with a long history as both a summer and winter resort. The forested hillside setting makes it particularly good for hiking and mountain biking in summer, while the ski area — shared with neighbouring Laax — draws snowboarders and skiers in winter.
The showpiece for summer visitors is the Caumasee, a brilliantly turquoise lake set in the forest just below the village, warm enough for swimming from June to September. Below the village, the Rhine Gorge (Ruinaulta) offers one of Switzerland's most dramatic landscapes — a canyon carved through ancient rockfall debris, with the Rhine threading through it.
Laax has grown to overshadow Flims as a pure ski resort, particularly among the snowboarding crowd, but Flims retains its village character and the forest walks that Laax lacks. The two are connected by a shared lift system and are treated as one ski area.
