The Patek Philippe Museum is a private museum on the left bank, housed in a converted 19th-century building on rue des Vieux-Grenadiers. It contains two collections: a historical section covering European watchmaking and enamelling from the 16th century to the early 20th century, and a Patek Philippe retrospective covering the brand's output since 1839.
The historical section is the more interesting of the two: cases of automata, equation-of-time clocks, astronomical instruments, and miniature paintings on enamel case-backs that require a magnifying glass to appreciate. The quality of the objects and the design of the display are both exceptional. It is, without question, one of the finest specialist museums in Switzerland. Admission is charged and the museum is closed Sundays and Mondays.
