Schilthorn — Piz Gloria

The Schilthorn stands at 2,970 metres above Mürren and is reached by a series of cable cars from either Lauterbrunnen via Grütschalp or directly from Stechelberg. At the summit, the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant completes a full 360-degree rotation in 45 minutes, giving diners views that span from the Titlis to the Jungfrau, across the Bernese Alps to the Jura and, on the clearest days, the Vosges Mountains and Black Forest.

The James Bond connection is shameless and enthusiastically deployed: there is a Bond World exhibition, Bond-themed cocktails, and regular showings of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. None of this diminishes the views, which are genuinely among the best in Switzerland. The black ski run descending from the summit is one of the more challenging runs in the region.

A story
The Schilthorn revolving restaurant was still under construction in 1968 when James Bond's producers needed it for On Her Majesty's Secret Service. They offered to finance its completion in exchange for filming rights. The film's villain used it as his lair — the restaurant has traded on this connection ever since. George Lazenby, who played Bond, has noted that it was the most spectacular location he has ever visited, which is saying something.
