Portes du Soleil

Les Crosets sits roughly in the middle of the Portes du Soleil ski area, which links twelve resorts spread between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva. From the village lifts you can ski into Champéry, Champoussin, and Morgins on the Swiss side, then drop over into Avoriaz, Morzine, Châtel, and Les Gets in France — all on one ticket.

The terrain varies wildly. Les Crosets itself is good for intermediates: wide, sunny pistes and quick access to the high points around the Pointe des Mossettes. The runs above Avoriaz and Morgins suit beginners. Experts head south to the Pas de Chavanette, also known as the Swiss Wall, a steep mogul field on the border that is one of the most fearsome marked pistes in Europe. In summer the network reopens as a mountain bike and walking park.

A story
The Portes du Soleil is one of the largest interconnected ski areas in the world: twelve resorts, more than 600 kilometres of marked pistes, and a single lift pass that lets you ski from a Swiss village to a French one and back in an afternoon, crossing the border without a passport check.
