Les Crosets

Small Swiss ski village with direct access to the cross-border Portes du Soleil pistes

Les Crosets is a small ski village in the Portes du Soleil, the vast cross-border ski area that links the Swiss and French Alps. Sitting at about 1,670 metres in the Val-d'Illiez, it offers direct access to over 600 kilometres of linked pistes stretching from Switzerland into France.

The village itself is compact and quiet — a handful of chalets, a couple of restaurants, and not much nightlife. That is the appeal. Families and skiers who want to be on the slopes rather than in a bar come here for the short lift queues and the views across to the Dents du Midi. The notorious Pas de Chavanette — the Swiss Wall — drops from the ridge above the village toward France, and the Pointe des Mossettes above is the area's principal viewpoint. In summer the same lifts ferry walkers and mountain bikers, with trails running through alpine meadows down to the valley floor and past the high lakes at Lac de Chésery. For more shops and life, the neighbouring village of Champéry is a short drive or lift ride away.

Guide

Getting There

Les Crosets is reached via Val-d'Illiez and Champéry. The nearest mainline station is Monthey, on the Rhone valley line between Lausanne and Brig. From Monthey a regional train (AOMC) runs up the valley to Champéry; from there it is a 7-kilometre climb by road or shuttle bus to Les Crosets.

By car, take the A9 motorway along Lake Geneva and exit at Bex or Monthey, then follow signs to Val-d'Illiez and Champéry. The mountain road up to Les Crosets is steep and narrow, with hairpin bends — drive carefully in winter and carry snow chains.

The nearest international airport is Geneva, about 100 kilometres north-west and roughly 90 minutes by car or train.
