The Aare Gorge is a tight limestone cut east of Meiringen, carved by glacial meltwater and now crossed by a 1.4 km walkway. In places the cliffs rise about 50 metres and the gorge narrows to little more than a slot, with the river pushing hard below.
Both ends are served by the Meiringen-Innertkirchen railway, which makes it easy to walk through one way when the full route is open. Early in the season only the western section may be accessible.
