Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (Klein Matterhorn)

The cable car to Klein Matterhorn ascends in stages from Zermatt to 3,883 metres. At the top, the Glacier Paradise station has an ice palace carved into the glacier each year — tunnels and sculptures that visitors walk through at sub-zero temperatures. The viewing terrace looks directly across to the main Matterhorn and down over the Gorner and Theodul glaciers.

The pistes from Klein Matterhorn are the highest in the Alps and the only guaranteed year-round ski terrain in Switzerland. On the other side of the ridge is Italy and the resort of Cervinia, which shares the glacier with Zermatt — you can ski from Switzerland into Italy for lunch and return the same afternoon. This is one of the better ways to spend a clear day in the Alps.

A story
At 3,883 metres, the Klein Matterhorn cable car station is the highest in Europe. On a clear day you can see into four countries from the viewing terrace — Switzerland, Italy, France, and in extreme visibility, Germany. The ski area here is glacial and runs year-round; in August you share the pistes with professional ski teams training for the coming season.
