Klein Matterhorn is the high, icy counterpoint to Zermatt's village charm. Cable cars climb to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise area, where the air is thin, the views are enormous, and the surrounding peaks make the Matterhorn feel like part of a whole alpine wall rather than a single postcard mountain.
This is one of Zermatt's big-ticket excursions, so check weather before paying for the ride. On a clear day you get glaciers, ski terrain, and a panorama deep into the Swiss and Italian Alps; in cloud, you mostly get cold and expense. Dress for altitude even when the village is warm.
