Avanhard Ski Resort

Ukraine's main Olympic ski training base with lifts open to public

Avanhard is the main ski area above Vorokhta and one of the most significant winter sports complexes in western Ukraine. Originally developed as an Olympic training base during the Soviet period, it has multiple downhill runs of varying difficulty, a ski jump facility, and an extensive network of groomed cross-country trails. The lifts and slopes are open to the public in winter, making it accessible to recreational skiers as well as serious athletes.

The resort sits above the treeline on the slopes above town, which means snow cover is generally reliable from December through March. Rental equipment is available on site. For cross-country skiers, the biathlon trails offer a serious workout through open alpine terrain with panoramic views of the Chornohora range. Hoverla is visible from the upper runs on clear days.

A story
Avanhard was built as a Soviet-era sports base and has served as the training ground for most of Ukraine's competitive cross-country skiers and biathletes. Athletes from the national squad still share the groomed tracks with holidaying families on winter weekends.
