Sviato-Uspinskyi Yeletskyi Monastery is one of Chernihiv's old religious complexes, with roots in the 11th century and later rebuilding after periods of damage. The Assumption Cathedral is the centrepiece of the monastery.
It belongs on a Chernihiv church-and-monastery walk together with the city's ancient cathedrals and burial mounds. The appeal is the depth of history rather than a single showpiece interior.
