Stody Lodge, a private estate just east of Briston, throws open its gardens for around six weekends each May when the rhododendrons and azaleas are at their peak. The display is genuinely one of the best in East Anglia — sixty acres of woodland walks under tall oaks and beeches, dotted with banks of brilliant orange, pink, and white blooms.
There is also a more formal water garden, a magnolia walk, and a tea tent in the orchard. Entry money goes to local charities; cash only at the gate. Check the opening dates before driving over, as the season is short and dictated entirely by the weather.
