St Michael's Church stands just below the castle and is worth treating as part of the same visit. Like many Suffolk wool churches, it is larger and richer than the town around it first suggests.
Inside are the tombs and monuments of the Howard family, whose power shaped Framlingham for centuries. The church also gives a quieter view of the town's medieval importance after the castle has made the loud case.
