Ha'penny Pier

Victorian pier from 1853, with harbour ferry to Felixstowe

One of Britain's oldest piers, opened in 1853 and named for the halfpenny toll charged to use it. The Victorian ticket office at its head now serves as the Harwich visitor centre, run by the Harwich Society. From the pier you get a good view across the harbour to Felixstowe's container cranes on the Suffolk shore. The Harwich Harbour ferry to Felixstowe departs from here in summer, a useful crossing for walkers and cyclists.
