The River Wensum runs through the Lenwade valley and provides some pleasant walking along its banks. The river here is chalk-fed and clear — a chalk stream in the classic Norfolk mould — and the bankside alder and willow give good cover for kingfishers, grey herons, and otters (occasionally seen in the early morning).
The Wensum Way long-distance footpath follows the river through the area. A circular walk of 3–4 miles can be made from the village, combining the riverbank with field paths through the Great Witchingham farmland. The OS Explorer map OL40 (Norwich) covers the area.
