St Nicholas' Church is the main medieval survival in old Stevenage, north of the new-town centre. It anchors the older village landscape and gives the town a sense of continuity that the shopping precinct alone cannot provide.
The church is worth combining with a walk through the Old Town. This is where Stevenage feels least like a planning case study and most like a Hertfordshire settlement that happened to be overtaken by the 20th century.
