Dent is one of Wainwright's Outlying Fells and sits on the far western fringe of the Lake District, where it also crosses the route of the famous Coast to Coast walk. The summit gives a fine distant prospect of the western fells in one direction and a wide seaward view across the Solway Firth in the other. It's a straightforward walk and a good one for a clear day when the visibility rewards the effort.
