Great Gable is one of the most striking and most popular mountains in the Lake District. The eastern slopes, rising from Styhead pass between Borrowdale and Wasdale, form the most frequently used route up the mountain. The National Trust, who own the mountain, have laid a pitched path through the eroded scree.
The view down into Wasdale from the Westmorland Cairn just below the summit is magnificent. The most exciting walker's route comes up from the Wasdale side via the climber's traverse. The pleasantest and least strenuous approach is from Honister Hause by way of the path known as Moses' Trod or over the summits of Brandreth and Green Gable.
