The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction

Three-dimensional tableaux of Peter Rabbit and friends in central Bowness

The World of Beatrix Potter, in Bowness, is the closest the Lakes have to a Beatrix Potter theme park. Across two floors, every one of the 23 Peter Rabbit tales is recreated in fully-modelled tableaux you can walk through — Mr. McGregor's garden, the Tailor of Gloucester's workshop, Mrs. Tiggywinkle's kitchen, Peter Rabbit's burrow under the fir tree. The artistry is much better than it sounds, and small children are usually transfixed.

There is also a garden area, a tea room with Peter-Rabbit-themed cakes, and the inevitable large gift shop. Aimed unashamedly at families with kids under ten, and at that audience it works brilliantly. Adults travelling without children should head straight to Hill Top farm at Near Sawrey — Potter's actual home — instead.
