Camden Market is a collection of several adjacent markets along the canal — Camden Lock, the Stables, the Canal Market — and has been the main London destination for alternative clothing, records, street food, and subculture goods since the 1970s. It draws enormous tourist crowds at weekends but retains a genuine energy, particularly in the Stables Market, where the stalls run through a series of old Victorian horse hospital buildings.
The food market around the canal lock is the most diverse in London for quick meals — you can eat Korean, Ethiopian, Jamaican, Japanese, Peruvian, and Syrian within a hundred metres. The fashion stalls have become more commercial over the years but independent designers and vintage dealers are still mixed in.
Nearest tube: Camden Town or Chalk Farm.
