A London institution in the old sense: a first-floor canteen in a Strand hotel, opened in 1951 by the India League as a gathering place for Indian diplomats and students. The decor has barely changed. The food is homely north Indian cooking — dhal, keema, biryani — at prices that seem impossible in central London.
Regulars defend it fiercely. Nearest tube: Temple or Holborn.
