The Gherkin

The Gherkin, officially 30 St Mary Axe, is the curved glass skyscraper that made the City of London's modern skyline feel suddenly playful. Designed by Norman Foster and completed in 2004, it won the Stirling Prize and quickly became one of London's most recognisable new buildings.

Most visitors see it from the street rather than going inside. Walk around Bury Street and St Mary Axe for the best close views, then pair it with Leadenhall Market, the Lloyd's Building, and the cluster of newer towers nearby.
