Steetley Pier

Derelict pier reaching out from the old Steetley Magnesite works

Steetley Pier juts 500 metres out into the North Sea from the headland at the north end of town — the surviving fragment of the Steetley Magnesite works, which closed in 2005. The plant itself was demolished and the site landscaped, but the pier was left in place as a fishing platform and informal monument.

It's not a maintained tourist site; the deck is patched concrete and the railings rusting. But the walk out is genuinely atmospheric, with the breakers piling against the piles and the gulls wheeling overhead. Locals fish from the end on summer evenings.
