Fusiliers Museum of Northumberland

The Fusiliers Museum of Northumberland is housed in the 14th-century Abbot's Tower inside Alnwick Castle — a location that lends it genuine atmosphere. The museum covers the history of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers from 1674 to the regiment's amalgamation in 2006, with collections of uniforms, weapons, medals, and personal effects that tell the story of the regiment's campaigns from Flanders to the Falklands.

The museum is less well-known than the main castle attractions, but it has a real depth to it: the personal stories behind the medals, the accounts of individual battles, and the social history of soldiering in Northumberland over three centuries make for genuinely engaging displays. Entry is included with the main castle ticket.
