Whalley Abbey preserves the remains of a Cistercian monastery in the Ribble Valley, with ruined arches, stone walls, and quiet grounds below the village. It is one of the most atmospheric historic sites near Clitheroe without requiring a long countryside walk.
The ruins reward a slow wander and pair well with Whalley village, the river, or a wider Ribble Valley drive. Access is usually straightforward, but parts of the site are connected to retreat use, so respect signed boundaries.
