Things to Do

Dover packs a surprising amount of history into a small area. Dover Castle with its wartime tunnels, The White Cliffs, and the Bronze Age boat in Dover Museum all sit within a few miles of each other. You can comfortably see the highlights in a day, though the clifftop walks to South Foreland Lighthouse reward a longer stay. The Roman Painted House and Maison Dieu are worth an hour each in the town centre. Samphire Hoe, the nature reserve created from Channel Tunnel chalk, makes an unusual half-hour detour west of town.
