The Thameside walk to Tilehurst is one of Reading's simplest pleasures: leave the commercial centre behind and follow the river west through towpath scenery, meadows, locks, and changing views of the Thames. It shows a softer side of a town many travellers only see from the station.
The route can be done as an out-and-back or linked with public transport from Tilehurst. Wear shoes that can handle mud after rain, and allow time to stop at the water rather than treating it as a march.
