St Laurence's Church in the Upton district of Slough is the oldest building in the Borough of Slough, with a chancel dating from the twelfth century and a nave that was extended in the thirteenth. It is a grade I listed building — one of very few in the borough — and its churchyard contains several medieval features including a lychgate.
The church is best known outside the immediate area as the burial place of William Herschel and his sister Caroline, two of the most important astronomers in history. Herschel died in 1822 and is buried inside the church. The building is open to visitors during daylight hours and is still an active parish church.
