Newberry Castle is the surviving earthwork of an Iron Age hillfort on Newberry Hill above Combe Martin — a roughly circular bank-and-ditch enclosure at 110 metres above sea level, hidden in undergrowth. There is no castle in the masonry sense and no visitor centre; it is a quiet, contour-mapped lump in the landscape best appreciated for its commanding position over the valley.
A short footpath from the high street climbs through scrub and woodland to the hilltop. The ramparts have been ploughed and grazed over the centuries but are still clearly readable, and the views across to Holdstone Down and out to the Bristol Channel are the real reward.
