Things to Do

Devizes punches well above its weight for a market town. The Caen Hill lock flight on the Kennet and Avon Canal is one of the great engineering spectacles of rural England, and the Wiltshire Museum holds Bronze Age treasures that rival anything in the British Museum. Add a Norman castle, a handsome medieval market square, and a town centre still shaped by Georgian prosperity, and you have more than enough to fill a day.

The town is compact and walkable. Most of the highlights cluster around the market square, with the canal basin a short stroll north and the castle mound just to the west. Caen Hill Locks require a short drive or a longer walk along the towpath, but the effort is rewarded.
